Make your own Indigo Vat


Indigo is a natural dye that works different than the regular natural dyes, we call it a vat dye. It requires specific ingredients and instructions to make the beautiful blues of the sees and the skies. It's magic!


Ingredients are generous amounts that will create and maintain your indigo vat.


Contents; This kit contains all the ingredients you need to make your indigo vat and dye a cotton bandana shibori style.

  • 25 grams of fresh organic indigo (Will make a vat that will dye about 1 kg of fiber a light to medium shade of blue.)
  • 100 grams of soda ash
  • 50 grams of sodium Hydrosulphite
  • ph strips
  • a wooden spoon
  • plastic gloves
  • Fabric 
  • Printed Instructions for setting up and maintaining your indigo vat.


The kit comes with all the ingredients you need to get you started, in addition you will need;

A container to dye in (stainless steel or heat proof plastic) that will not be used for anything else after.

Hot water

A small container or a glass.
