Sourced from renewable, sustainably managed forests in India, this extract is derived from the heartwood of Caesalpinia sappan, also known as Eastern Brazilwood.
Color & Dye Properties
The primary pigment in sappanwood, Brazilin, produces a stunning range of colors—from warm reds and pinks to rich oranges—depending on the pH of your dye bath.
How to Use
- Dosage: Use at 5–10% WOF (weight of fiber).
- Yield: 100 grams of extract dyes approximately 1.5 kg of fabric.
- Preparation: Dissolve the extract in hot water and heat just below a simmer before adding your fiber.
- Mordanting:
- Alum for bright reds
- Copper for deeper shades like dark red, plum, and wine
