What can I say, Mexico stole my heart a bit, with the vibrant colors, the friendly people, and the food!

I invite you to my 2025 Mexico Retreat in San Miguel de Allende. This year it will take place 2-8 March in Boutique Hotel Casa Angelitos. I have a very special week planned that includes many colorful treats and lots of studio time. This is a workshop and the trip of a lifetime in one.

What will we be doing this year?

Natural dyeing with Mexican dyes; learn all the secrets of logwood, tagetes, cochineal, indigo, and more.

As part of my efforts to create a community around dyes, and return knowledge to where it belongs, the wonderful sweet (but stern!) ladies of a local arts and crafts cooperative will learn dyeing with us, and then teach us how to do their traditional embroidery.

You will dye silk and wool embroidery yarn and fabrics in all stunning shades of the rainbow. Through this process, you will learn mordanting, (skein) dyeing, and overdyeing.

In the afternoon, our local teachers will instruct us in the traditional Mexican embroidery style known as 'Tenangos', using the yarn we dyed.

There will be a translator (or two) present.

We will do one day of alternative dyeing on fabrics, using our dyes to create marbled or (block)printed designs.

One day is dedicated to botanical printing with local plants, on colored backgrounds.

As you can see this is a retreat PACKED with fun color knowledge, a trip you will not easily forget!

There will be two free afternoons for shopping, or visiting the local hot springs.

In the evenings, you can grab an Oaxacan ice cream in the central town square and listen to the Mariachis.
