Used since the Nara period and In ancient Japan, the color purple (murasaki) was considered a "forbidden color" and was associated with the Imperial family and high-level officials. Murasaki, the root of the Lithospermum erythrorhizon plant, is one of Japan’s oldest and most revered natural dyes. These dried root pieces yield breathtaking shades ranging from soft lilacs to deep imperial purples, depending on pH and mordant.

Please note: Murasaki is sensitive to heat and oxidation. For best results, follow a cold extraction method.
