Este es extracto en polvo de hojas frescas de Isatis tinctoria, también llamado hierba pastel, isatide o áspide de Jerusalem. En Francia se llama pastel y en alemán Waid. En holandés lo llamamos wede.
Es una planta con flores de la familia Brassicaceae, una hierba bienal de hasta 1,60 metros de altura. La hierba pastel es también el nombre de un tinte azul producido a partir de las hojas de la planta.
La hierba contiene indigotina, en forma de isatan A y B pero en porcentajes más bajos que las plantas indigofera regulares. Tiene que hacer una tina con hierba pastel para poder usar el polvo, puede combinarlo también con índigo.
Para las muestras creé una tina de hidros simple siguiendo las instrucciones de este blog con 10 gramos de hierba pastel por litro de agua.

I used this woad in my soap recipes after I had to reformulate all my recipes containing indigo after that got banned for use in soap in the UK. It works beautifully and is also appropriate as woad was used a lot in Celtic Britain.
I love this Paler Shade Of Blue. I dyed cotton, linen, silk and wool. I used Suzanne’s recipe for a strong vat, 25 grams. It went a long way. In the end I threw in a white Terry hand towel to exhaust the dye vat. Eventually, when I have enough yarn dyed I will weave a silk shawl and a
wool scarf.
This powder is hard to find in my country and I’m using it for soapmaking. Luckily I found it in a google search here. Beautiful quality and I love supporting a wonderful small business. Customer service was excellent. It took a while for the powder to get to me due to world events but the owner kept me informed. I will definitely order again.
